An excellent night at Akropolis tonight. We had our usual share of detractors because we don’t play vinyl, but at the end of the day the flexibility of our set (enabled by more than 3,000 songs, mostly rare, on the hard drive) won people over. It was nice playing a salsa set, then being able to take a right turn into more abstract beats, then into cool bossa nova just because we could.
The thing about our gigs is that we really don’t have anything to prove, as many DJs do. It really is about the love of the music – in my own case modern Latin music that combines elements of electronica with pieces of the past. The coolest part of tonight was when a fellow DJ, who goes by the name of Skywalker, told us we had the best set of the month at Akropolis “because you got soul.” That makes it all worth it.
It’s past 5am and I’m gonna crash, then over the weekend I’m out with my Easter whip.
