Tonight is Carodejnice, a Czech holiday that is closest in spirit to Halloween, but without the costumes or candy. It translates as something like “Day of the Witches,” which is celebrated mostly around a bonfire. Considering that we’re experiencing unseasonably warm weather, tonight’s bonfires should be pretty pleasant.

Carodejnice, like Halloween, is one of my favorite holidays. Something about being outside on a late spring evening with a bonfire is just excellent.
