In the comments, reader Xavi asks:

Do you know of any summer jobs available for english speakers around Prague? I´ll be staying at a friend´s place in Holesovice, Prague 7.. and was thinking getting a job as a recepcionist or something similar… any thoughts on this?

I really don’t know, as I’ve (luckily) been gainfully employed for some time. It’s my understanding, though, that it’s gotten a lot harder to just show up and get a job doing something like teaching English. Most language schools require at least some experience and qualifications – rightfully so, because so many were burnt by bad, inexperienced teachers.

In my own case, I managed to avoid the English-teaching thing because I came here with a job at Prognosis waiting for me. I did come close to teaching English to Lucie Bila one time, which would have been excellent (for me) had it happened. But it didn’t. The only time I did end up teaching English was to a 15-year-old girl, a friend of a friend. I didn’t have any curriculum, no lesson plan, no books even. We simply walked around and pointed at things, and then talked about them. I was a terrible teacher, but somehow she managed to get what she needed, which was confidence after numerous years of bad English classes.

Anyway, sorry for the digression. If you can think of something to help Xavi out, please leave your suggestions in the comments.
