Bishkek, Day 2

Surprising stuff all around here today. I’m surprised by the friendliness and eagerness to help today. I’m also surprised by the situations many people find themselves in.

I’d write in greater detail about why I’m here, but suffice it to say that this is not a place conducive to free journalism, and to give greater detail might cause trouble for some of the people I’m talking to. So while I’m not under an NDA, I consider it a “Social NDA.”

As with many conferences, today I saw a great deal of the inside of the Hotel Pinara. So I could describe what their meeting rooms look like for you.

But at one point I did get to go up to the top floor of the hotel, which has a panoramic view of the city and the mountains. A short video is here. Um, no, I won’t be able to post that today. Technical difficulties. Um, these mountains are big. I’m talking Alps big, jutting out of the plain dramatically.
