I’m not sure how much I should be posting about the Czech political situation these days. There are certainly some interesting stories around, like the situation at TV Nova, but for me, the dominant story is the upcoming EU vote.
I don’t know why, but something in my gut is telling me this EU vote is going to go badly. In my apartment building, for example, one of my neighbors posted an anti-EU flier on our communal bulletin board. I’ve seen a lot of grass-roots mobilization like this in several places.
Haven’t seen any pro-EU fliers, and aside from a few really boring billboards, I haven’t seen much in the way of convincing presentation from the pro-EU camp.
In 1948, it’s important to remember that the Czechs voted the communists into power. That election was viewed by most as a colossal mistake that took 50 years to correct. I fear a similar mistake may be in the works in two weeks.
