For the first time in its history, Czech TV will broadcast live from a courtroom, iDnes is reporting. The trial in question is of the trial of Karel Srba, the secretary to former Foreign Minister Jan Kavan. Srba is accused, among other things, of attempted murder, by hiring a hitman to kill Sabina Slonkova, who uncovered corruption in the Foreign Ministry.

Prime Minister Vladimír Špidla, along with other top politicians, condemned the decision to broadcast the trial live, adding that he would not watch it.

“When I imagine what kinds of detail and intimate things go on in court, we’re really talking about some kind of reality show. And I consider that the lowest genre of television broadcast,” the Prime Minister said.
