I spend a lot of my time listening to the BBC World Service, and one of my favorite shows has always been Alistair Cooke’s ‘Letter From America.’ These informal, sometimes rambling, always interesting radio commentaries have given a much-needed outsider’s view on goings-on back home.

So I’m very sorry to hear that after an astounding 70-year career with the BBC, Alistair Cooke is retiring from ‘Letter From America.’ Here’s the official BBC announcement from his biographer, Nick Clarke, and here is the last Letter from America.
