Gotta love the Gilles Peterson BBC stream. On the Dec. 12 show, I took special notice of a cover of the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” by a group called Nostalgia 77 that was hella funky and hella soulful. After Joss Stone’s cover of “Fell In Love With A Girl,” it’s nice to see a mini-trend in funky White Stripes covers.

Someone – I like to think it was Kate Sullivan – said that the White Stripes’ music really is the blues, and when I usually hear stuff like that, I cringe. But hearing this Nostalgia 77 track, I’m a believer.
