Ferghana.ru and Kyrgyzstan

Like a lot of people, I’m watching events unfold in Kyrgyzstan with a mixture of hope and concern. It’s been more than a year since I was in Bishkek, and I know that a lot has changed. But the situation has the potential to get very ugly very fast.

One of the best sources of information that I’ve come across on news from throughout the entire Ferghana Valley region is ferghana.ru, which is an online publication edited out of Moscow by Daniil Kislov. Published in both Russian and English, it’s definitely worth bookmarking.

Daniil is young, smart and funny, and a committed journalist publishing under some of the most adverse circumstances imaginable, and I trust his judgement and his team’s reporting on what’s going on in the region.

  1. I’m also wishing all the luck to our friends there… to all those polite, hospitable people that I met in Bishkek and Isik Kul. But I’m worried, as it doesn’t look similar to Georgian and Ukrainian scenario…
