Curiously similar

Doesn’t this sound somehow familiar?

A peaceful rave, far out in the countryside, suddenly attacked by police in riot gear. Unarmed civilians are brutally beaten.

A cloud of lies are issued from the police side about not having the requisite permits, and that the ravers posed a threat to public order. Only then it emerges that not only were all the permits in perfect order, and there was no threat to anyone or anything.

It happened last weekend in southwestern Utah, in the land of the free, home of the brave. Sploid has the coverage.

CORRECTION 1857 Wed 24 Aug 05: Reader Sean Neves points out that the event was actually at Diamond Fork, in Northern Utah.

  1. Yup. It was, I suppose, a message to all who do not toe the party line in Utah County: get out if you dare to think differently. Oh, and by the way, the Rave was at Diamond Fork, in Northern Utah.

  2. the first couple of times i saw that story pop up yesterday i assumed that the american news wires had picked up the czech incident. . . it wasn’t ’til i finally read one of the articles to see how close it was to your translated article that i realized it was a completely different rave. . .
