God’s mills grinding in sync

One of my favorite Czech sayings goes something like ‘God’s mills grind exceedingly slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.’

And sometimes, they even grind in sync.

Two of the biggest symbols of the Era of Purple Suits met their comeuppance today. The European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee voted unanimously to strip MEP Vladimír Železný of his parliamentary immunity. He will now face a vote before the entire European Parliament, but it is likely he will be handed over to the Czech Republic to face trial for customs evasion.

Around the same time, the FBI arrested Viktor Kožený in the Bahamas for wide=ranging corruption charges related to his ‘byznyz’ activities in Azerbaijan.

Personally, I couldn’t be happier to see these two men face justice. What has been so amazing is that they’ve been able to avoid the courts for this long.

  1. I prefer the 12″ dance remix of the original (based on the Greek Sextus Empiricus, BTW):

“All the lessons of history in four sentences:

Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad with power.

The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly small.

The bee fertilizes the flower it robs.

When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.”
