One of my favorite Czech sayings goes something like ‘God’s mills grind exceedingly slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.’
And sometimes, they even grind in sync.
Two of the biggest symbols of the Era of Purple Suits met their comeuppance today. The European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee voted unanimously to strip MEP VladimÃr Železný of his parliamentary immunity. He will now face a vote before the entire European Parliament, but it is likely he will be handed over to the Czech Republic to face trial for customs evasion.
Personally, I couldn’t be happier to see these two men face justice. What has been so amazing is that they’ve been able to avoid the courts for this long.
